About Me
I’m Elizabeth, a Portland native who has been creating art since high school. I especially love doing pet portraits and landscape paintings. I grew up in a house filled with rambunctious animals. Then I acquired my passion for landscapes after joining the Mazamas and climbing glaciated peaks across the Pacific Northwest. All of my landscape paintings depict places I have visited.
I credit my sister for giving me the moniker “Alpine ice cream”! Every time I completed a landscape, she would point out a flavor of ice cream that the mountain resembled, like rocky road or red velvet. And now it’s a running joke between us.
*I am currently NOT on any social media or Etsy. If you see my screen name or art anywhere else online, that is not me!
My Thought Process
We all cherish the sublime views and anticipate the summit selfies. But I derive special joy from painting the journey after a safe return. Think of it like a self indulgent trip report on canvas.
In the age of AI, we ask ourselves what gives art value beyond the final commodity. For me, the answer lies in the spiritual value. What is the human intent driving the creative process? Whenever I paint a landscape I visited, I have incorporated climbing as a step in my creative process.
And nature has inherent spiritual value. It brings me out of my routine and alters my perception of time. It’s difficult to immediately adjust back to the pace and expectations of the real world after being immersed in nature. Any spiritual experience requires me to integrate what I learned and felt. So painting is a great way to do exactly that.
